Online Counselling Port Hardy, BC

Virtual Therapy & Mental Health Support for Port Hardy & the Tri-Port Area

My name is Chris Walker, and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC). If you have found your way to this page, it is very likely that you live in Port Hardy, which is one of many remote communities in British Columbia.

Whether you are navigating relationship conflicts, stress, anxiety, or depression, finding local, specialized mental health support in isolated regions can be incredibly challenging. I provide secure, confidential online counselling tailored specifically to individuals and couples living in remote BC communities.

Understanding the Remote & Rural BC Lifestyle

I currently practice from Nanaimo, BC, but my connection to the North Island runs deep. For the first 25 years of my working life, I was a forest technologist and forester, managing forest areas right in your vicinity.

Having worked as a forester, wildland firefighter, carpenter, and farmer, I understand firsthand the unique pressures of rural life, resource-based economies, and seasonal industries. The work in these professions, trades and skills have provided the opportunity to work with a wide diversity of people of many cultures and beliefs.

Living in a tight-knit community also means that local privacy can be hard to come by. Choosing an online therapist outside of your immediate town ensures 100% confidentiality and anonymity, giving you a safe space to talk without worrying about seeing your counsellor at the local grocery store.

16 Years of Diverse Clinical Experience

I bring 16 years of private practice experience to our sessions. In addition to working with individuals and couples, I am an approved service provider for several recognized federal and provincial programs, meaning your sessions may be covered under:

  • First Nations Health Authority (FNHA)
  • Victim Services of British Columbia
  • Federal Government Employment Assistance Programs (EAP)
  • Veterans Services
  • The BC ALS Society

Before transitioning into psychotherapy, my varied career paths: forester, firefighter, carpenter, farmer, salesclerk, instructor, surveyor and arborist, allowed me to work with a wide diversity of people, cultures, and beliefs. I bring this practical, real-world grounding into every counselling session.

Education, Professional Credentials, and Background

My education has been an interesting mis of science and philosophy. I hold a profound connection to the land, raised in a rural South Langley setting within a family deeply rooted in psychology for two generations.

  • Master’s Degree in Psychology – California Southern University (2006-2010)
    • Accredited and fully endorsed by the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) and the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).
  • Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources – University of British Columbia (1994-1998)
  • Diploma in Forest Technology – BC Institute of Technology (1986-1988)

When I am not in the clinic, I am an avid outdoorsman enjoying everything from mountaineering to scuba diving, as well as a painter and musician. I am now married with a stepchild and a child from my former marriage. My family is very important to me and has challenged my self growth more than any other aspect of my life.
